Seane Corn Rose From Humble Beginnings!

Seane Corn began her career in yoga in New York City in the 1980’s. At that time, she was just a teenager waiting tables at a local restaurant. She and the restaurant owner and another waitress decided to go in together and form a yoga studio. They called it Jivamukta. Eventually, her friends went abroad to study yoga more intensively. Seane stayed in NYC and continued in yoga and meditation practice.

Seane Corn had an epiphany! She realized that yoga and the accompanying spiritual and meditative practices had helped her to overcome obsessive-compulsive tendencies and to become accepting of herself. Following her training in NYC, Seane traveled to India to train with yoga instructor, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. She also received spiritual instruction from Ammachi Mona Miller and Barbara Soloman.

This experience helped her to become deeply invested in the spirituality of yoga, and this aspect has always been a very large part of her yoga practice and teaching. Her style is a combination of prayer and flow yoga (Vinyasa yoga). It is a style that is always growing and evolving. Her classes seamlessly combine a very fluid and energetic flow yoga workout with an intense focus on prayerfulness and meditation. She believes that combining these two elements empowers the practitioner and fosters self-awareness and acceptance.

Bikram Choudhury

It is said that Bikram began learning yoga at the age of three. As a teenager Bikram Choudhury won several National ‘Yoga’ championships in his native India. He was named ‘Yogi Raj’ by Swami Sivananda when he was just 14 years old. Yogi Raj translates to King Of Yogi’s.
